History -The Oriental's main accommodation was built in 1862 and was named the Empire Hotel. Then in 1885 changed to the Chalet, and in 1919 was named the Oriental Guesthouse and became home to many railway and postal linesmen. Guests from Melbourne would arrive at the railway station and were picked up by a horse and carriage to stay for the weekend at the Oriental Guesthouse. It was named after the Oriental mine. The name changed again in the 1990's to Bright Central Motel until recently when the Newman family took ownership and decided that the name, "The Oriental" was important to the history of Bright as one of its oldest buildings, and decided to return the hotel to its former name, "Oriental Guesthouse" and Motel.

Accommodation - "The Oriental" has a variety of rooms. In the Historic Section there are rooms for everyone, single, doubles and groups. Some rooms have ensuites, some shared facilities, and some are undergoing a facelift to return them to a taste of yesteryear with old world style furniture and fittings.
There is a guest kitchen upstairs for guests to cook breakfast or organise for a BBQ in the beautiful ferned garden area. Rosellas and parrots are some of the birdlife that visit the property, and create a tranquil setting for BBQ or drinks, or just relax upstairs on our wide verandahs and take in the spectacular views of the mountains surrounding Bright.

The Oriental also boasts a formal lounge and dining area (opens late December). There is a wine bar in the recreation room for you to relax and have a beer or glass of wine during the day or evening prior to selecting one of the many gourmet delights that Bright has to offer. (You don't have to be staying here to call in and have a drink at the bar.)

The motel section comprises double or triple rooms with ensuites. There are also 4 family suites which can sleep up to 5, with one or two bathrooms, two separate bedrooms and kitchenette lounge areas.

"The Oriental" offers a selection of accommodation for all ages and price ranges, and best of all we are right in the heart of Bright's main shopping area, not need to drive, walk to everything. Call us on 5755 1074 for information or we can send you a brochure.
